‘John Trudell AKA Grafitti Man’ Vinyl Album Releasing on International Record Store Day:
‘John Trudell AKA Grafitti Man’ re-releases April 22nd - Trudell’s Bad Dog to perform in Portland

The official John Trudell archives, in a partnership Inside Recordings, have announced a re-issue of a limited edition vinyl album of John Trudell AKA Grafitti Man on International Record Store Day, April 22, 2017.

The limited edition re-release will be a translucent red vinyl album manufactured by the Pallas Group in Germany. The re-release of John Trudell AKA Grafitti Man will also include printed lyric sleeves as well as a full digital download of the album and a bonus video titled Rockin’ The Res.

John Trudell: AKA Grafitti Man was originally released in 1986. In 1992, with executive producer Jackson Browne, the album was once again released as a compilation of the earlier collection of recordings and was hailed by Bob Dylan as “the best album of the year.”

To accompany the limited edition album’s international release on April 22, 2017, the Music Millennium record store in  Portland, Oregon will host musical artists Joel Rafael with John Trudell’s Bad Dog band on Saturday, April 22 at 7 p.m. for an in-store performance.

The late John Trudell (1946-2015) was hailed as a leader for the Indian of All Tribes Occupation of Alcatraz in 1969, and served as chairman of the American Indian Movement (AIM) from 1973-1979.

Trudell was quoted as saying, “I’m just a human being trying to make it in a world that is rapidly losing its understanding of being human.”

In a release by the John Trudell archives, many notable people offered comments about Trudell.

Indian country music icons Buffy Sainte-Marie and Robbie Robertson shared their thoughts. “The triumph of John Trudell is that he has been able to bring the strength of a brilliant activist into the arena of the arts — tender, intact, but still on fire,” said Sainte-Marie.

“John and I worked together several times over the years, and each time I grew to admire him more. His acting in film was terrific. His music was outstanding. His prose and poetry were beautiful. And more than anything he was a solid stand-up guy. I cherished his friendship and will miss him deeply,” said Robertson.

“[John Trudell was] probably the most charismatic speaker I’ve ever heard,” said Bonnie Raitt

“John Trudell is a crazy long wolf, poet, prophet, preacher, warrior full of pain and fun and laughter and love, spilling out a vision of fable and truth, love and war, from the unique and somewhat desperate point of view of the Wild American. He’s a reality check. No paranoid; he’s aware of the Enemy (a formidable Predator with no respect for any form of life). Justice is a fire that burns inside him. His spirit cries out for it. It makes him dangerous,” said Kris Kristofferson

In addition to the re-release of John Trudell AKA Grafitti Man on December 13, the Transcendental indie folk band The Pines announced the release of their official music video Time Dreams, a collaboration with the late John Trudell and writer, director and producer Missy Whiteman (Northern Arapaho and Kickapoo) of Independent Indigenous Film and Media.
