The bluest blue Jay cries

To Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

Whose tiny sunlit scarlet Throats

 

Dance

 In grand extravagance –

Otherworldly, truly –

 

Huge Crows dip low overhead

Searching out Breakfast, screeching black

Messengers from an Underworld unseen

 

Guided by the gliding

Flying, dipping, darting

Drumming, thrumming, Hummingbirds –

 

Symbols of an over-arching Wing –

Hints of a Time sublime

When I too will sing.

Sacred Vessels vibrate

With ancient Symbols  

Shells – Spirals – wild Goats

Great Bulls – Cuttlefish

Rosettes – Chariots

Dolphins leaping

 

Marble Goddesses

Fresh white Flesh –

Alabaster Arms akimbo –

Smooth – unbowed

Though they hold

Ten Thousand Years.

Flown the Arrow from the Bow –

Gone the small white Stone

Into a strong-man’s Brow –

America removes

Coils of Limitation, Cruelty –

War and Mayhem disappear –

She rejects a Repeat of History

Fascism. . . Corruption. . . Bigotry

 

An adolescent Nation ripens –

 Evolution races like the Stone –

Shock, Torpor, and Denial lift --

Conviction defeats the Unthinkable –

Action takes a Turn and strong –

The Arrow finds its Mark

Consciousness rises with the Sun

Division and Evil die in Washington.

“Cinderella”

 

I mop and sweep

I dust and weep

I scour, scrub and fill the Pail

I polish the Knives and Spoons and Forks –

I’m thin and pale

From Overwork!

I wipe and wash

I dry and try

To turn my rough Hands soft

I clean and iron

I hustle and bustle

To chase the Dirt away –

I am tired and mired

In Cobwebs and Motes

Floating in vacuumed Air –

I clean the Silver

Hang out the Wash

I bleach and then

Reach for More –

I straighten the Rugs

And change the Sheets –

Fluffing and folding –

Keeping Mice at bay

Did I say Mice?

Hooray!

My Coach is on the way.

Men howl like Wolves

For Bulls, Rams, Bears,

Lions, Giants, Vipers and Devils

 

Here in this Land barbarian

People drink like Fish –

Shop like Hunters for Prey

With a Passion for Consumption

 

Here in this Land barbarian

 As Poet I am superfluous –

Unnecessary, redundant

Extraneous, unwanted

 

Here in this Land barbarian

Soul’s Territory a foreign Space –

Mysterious – too deep too high –

Here in this Land barbarian out of Place.

The Alchemy of Godhead –

Hippocrene* by name.

In Grief and Pain

Separated from Splendor –

Spending Days cramped  

In over-crowded Places –

In small guarded Spaces

 

Now Signs and Symbols shout –

Translating the Unconscious

Into Consciousness –

Crushing the overarching Power

Of the Patriarchy

To miss the Point entirely

 

Oh, my waking, walking Soul – my Guide –

Let us prance and dance with Ease

Like a fat elm in a strong Breeze –

My Heart beats to the Rhythm of your Stride.

Oh Muse, oh Husband, may you be the same

That I need only look to one for All

Allow my Marriage to yield more than Name

As Adam cherished Eve before the Fall

Dear Muse, dear Husband, if it be our will

May well our Union celebrated be

While we raise Progeny of Ink and Quill

Prolific now but more so presently

We’ll populate the earth with measured Feet –

Not Human merely but also in Verse

Verse whose noble Lines inspire not Deceit –

But Love and Honor o’er the Universe

 

When so my musing husbanded shall be –

Ethereal Priestesses float unseen

Intoning a Poetry of Completion

Psyche and Eros marry Lip to Hip

And I did think it odd

The Bird came close

As if to speak

In Awe I shut my Eyes

 

Then I did feel

Upon my cheek

A tiny Kiss –
