To Silence
and Birdsong---
Sweet
Liberation---
With
Eyes clear as Glass
I
see blue Mountains---
Now
I am calm while
Tall Trees rustle
In the turquoise Dusk---
Now
I am quiet

Planetary Human
Up came I from the
border Towns –
Texas towns of Wind
and Heat
Dust unto Dust
Up drove I from a
Valley of Death –
Border Patrols – screaming
Sirens –
Burly men searching
for “Wetbacks”
Crossing the Rio
Grande –
Swimming for their
Lives and Children
Braving Cold – Darkness
– Nets - Death
Cops everywhere in
those Texas Towns –
Armed and
dangerous Vigilantes
Looking to find a
Reason to kill
Small brown People
Gentle and proud
With Hope greater
than Fear –
Nothing to lose
Up drove I through
ghost Town after Town
From Palm to
Mesquite –
North came I when Night
descended
Looking for Shelter
– none to be had –
Every Lad from the
Oil Fields
With pockets full
of Cash
Filled every Space
– sold out – locked down
No Room at the Inn
for
Brave brown People or me.

Blue Solar Monkey
Amid the glossy
Steel and engine’s Roar
I saw his Eyes point
blank –
Blue like Skies,
Jay’s Wing -- Ocean Water
In the Sun that set
as we flew north
From Warmth, carried
on a soft Wind
We sat in antiseptic
Splendor
On a Plane of Strangers
In Time we broke the
sound Barrier –
Decided that we’d
found
Too much to speak of
to let go –
“No” – suspend the
Night and Day
Escape from Pain,
seek Peace, delay
Your Flight and stay
with me
I heard his Plea
Asking that I change
my Course
Rearrange my Night
and Day
For him
I uttered my Reply
Dared not deny
myself the Instinct
Too long held
captive, Wings clipped –
Not allowed to fly
The Jewel of that
March Night
Shimmered with our
Heat and Light –
Our Bodies fused -
Desire keenly felt
And tightly wrapped
around us
Is this my Fate –
My Destiny
incarnate?
Bronze Strength –
blue Fire
Cool green Mountain
Shade
On white hot Desert
Sand
My dear One –
My Atlanta one Night Stand.

Isis
I knew that I
could die no more
For All that
Death did offer
I drank thereof
before
Down in the Depths
With the Goddess
wild
Down in the Dark
With my broken
Child
I stayed with Her
I ate with Her
Consuming the
Ashes
Of Death–in–Life
Until again I rose
In Beauty and in
Grace
I bid farewell
To
the Worst – to the Best
Death
forever in me known –
Fear forever put
to Rest.

Detonate Her right out of the Sky
Why?
Unnaturally
The Rhythm of the Tides
The Movement of the Waters
Would cease –
Apparently
These Cycles are too Time-consuming
For this Man
Our Culture demands
Immediate Gratification --
The Instant Fix
A Negation of Life, Death, and
Rebirth --
Linear Time rules in no Time
Time out of Time with Nature
Earth out of Time – out of Touch
Out of Tune with the Moon
There once was a Man
Who would blow up the Moon –
One wonders what was
In his Mother’s Milk!

Close to Possibility and Passion –
Suspicion suspends Belief
Trust steps out for a Smoke
Neither Relief nor Faith survives
The imminent Loss of Hope.
