Amid the glossy Steel and engine’s Roar

I saw his Eyes point blank –

 

Blue like Skies---Jay’s Wing -- Ocean Water

In the Sun that set as we flew north

From Warmth, carried on a soft Wind

 

We sat in antiseptic Splendor

On a Plane of Strangers---

In Time we broke the sound Barrier---

Decided that we’d found

Too much to speak of to let go –

 

“No”---suspend the Night and Day

Escape from Pain, seek Peace, delay

Your Flight and stay with me---

I heard his Plea

Asking that I change my Course

Rearrange my Night and Day

For him

 

I uttered my Reply

Dared not deny myself the Instinct

Too long held captive, Wings clipped –

Not allowed to fly--- 

 

The Jewel of that March Night

Shimmered with our Heat and Light –

Our Bodies fused---

Desire keenly felt

And tightly wrapped around us

 

Is this my Fate---

My Destiny incarnate?

Bronze Strength---blue Fire

Cool green Mountain Shade

On white hot Desert Sand

 

My dear One---

How do I tell thee of my Love?

Are Verses sung in Tune enough

To move you beyond moving?

 

Shall I paint a Portrait of Affection

Reflecting deep Enchantment?

 

My Affection turns Affliction---

Its Weight is heavy on my Heart

 

 Fear battles Hope

That in the Telling I will see

 

Acceptance---willingness

To love me in Return---

 

Fear locks the Gates of Love

 Faith alone holds fast the Key.

Detonate Her  out of the Sky

The Rhythm of the Tides

The Movement of the Waters

Would cease---

Apparently

These Cycles take too muchTime

For this Man

 

Our Culture demands

Immediate Gratification---

The Instant Fix

A Negation of Life---Death---Rebirth---

Linear Time rules in no Time

Time out of Time with Nature

Earth out of Time---out of Touch---

Out of Tune with the Moon

 

There once was a Man

Who would blow up the Moon---

One wonders what composed

His Mother’s Milk!

Suspicion suspends Belief

Trust steps out for a Smoke

 

Neither Relief nor Faith survive

The imminent Loss of Hope.

A Resurrection of Affection---

Wordless Communion

Reunion---Celebration

 

A past Affair---

After a bitter Death---Life

Brought to present Time

 

In Forgiveness---

Remembrance

There is a Time of Year lies yawning---

Stretching the Space between Seasons

Days---Weeks of Promise when, depending on the Solstice

We stand between cold Dread and warm Anticipation---

 

There is a Time of Year that takes the plant Roots deep---

Makes its Moves from inner Signals

Cosmic Calls of ice-filled Lakes---

Frost---Cold---Wind---Snow and Rain

 The Skies of November resemble a Day in March

When Clouds give no Comfort or Promise of Warmth

 

Finally, winter loses Strength –

A Seed begins its brave invisible

 Ascent to early Suns too pale for warming---

Only Faith supports our Skin and Bones

Now chilled and blue with Longing

For spring, the winter’s Damage to atone

 

That Time of Year lay shivering

While we, like Children, short-sighted

And burning with Desire cannot wait

For howling, whistling Winds

To blow away the old and bring upon the New

The autumnal Days of early spring are rude---

They tease and taunt without Remorse

 

 That Time of Year too short to name until---

Azure fills a Sky of cotton Clouds---

Jonquil Petals open with the Violet

Green Grass quivers with the Flights of little Bees

Whose Legs are yellow Pollen laden---

Daffodil sits up with Hyacinth upon the Hill

The Moth awakes to fly on parchment Wing

The Seasons turn---Gaia smiles---naming Spring.

A Phantom have I

Lived with near a Year---

An inner Voice---

A disembodied Face

 

A separate Self---

Beloved yet apart---

A ghostly Lover

Occupies my Heart

 

His surface Charm

Hides Depths unknown---

Deadly and immortal both---

Wild Resentment grown---

 

Upon him, I projected

Every Wound and Crime

Committed from infancy

Until present Time---

 

I fashioned him a Hero

That insubstantial Soul---

But when I cut him loose I saw

The Hero is my Self, made whole.

To Ruby-throated Hummingbirds

Whose tiny sunlit scarlet Throats

 

Dance

 In grand extravagance---

Otherworldly, truly---

 

Huge Crows dip low ahead

Searching for Breakfast---screeching black

Messengers from an unseen Underworld

 

Guided by the gliding

Flying, dipping, darting

Drumming, thrumming, Hummingbirds---

 

Symbols of an over-arching Wing---

Hints of a Time sublime

When I too, will sing.

Dolphins leaping

 

Marble Goddesses

Though Ten Thousand

Shock, Torpor, and Denial lift---

Conviction defeats the Unthinkable---

 Action takes a Turn and strong---

The Arrow finds its Mark

Consciousness rises with the Sun

“Cinderella”

 

I mop and sweep

I dust and weep

I scour, scrub and fill the Pail

I polish the Knives and Spoons and Forks---

I’m thin and pale

From Overwork!

I wipe and wash

I dry and try

To make my rough Hands soft

I clean and iron

I hustle and bustle

To chase the Dirt away---

I am tired and mired

In Cobwebs and Motes

Floating in vacuumed Air---

I clean the Silver

Hang out the Wash

I bleach and then

Reach for More---

I straighten the Rugs

And change the Sheets---

Fluffing and folding---

Keeping Mice at bay

Did I say Mice?

Hooray!
