Precolumbian incense burner (Toltec?) from Central Mexico encodes Amanita muscaria mushrooms as the "legendary tears of Quetzalcoatl."  Note as well that the scroll at the bottom of the censer repeats a hook-shape that I have come to believe is the symbol of a religion based on mushrooms and worship of the planet Venus.   (jpg - 4.bp.blogspot.com/.../s320/Mexico+City+080.jpg)

Blue Cosmic Eagle

Underneath an

Earthen Crust

In Gaia's Nest

A Serpent turns –

Languorously undulating

Among Blossoms infinite

The Flowers of all Nations –

She knows her Self

Sacred yet vilified

Mythic Mediator

Of Land and Sky –

Her Form

Eternally re-born 

Among deep Roots

Of the great World Tree –

When opposites meet

Marry and merge 

Power travels like lightning -

Where Scales once lay

Where smooth Skin shed –

Now Eagle’s Wing

Ascends instead.
