Solar birthday of Ernst Florens Friedrich Chladni (1756), German physicist and musician, also known as the "Father of Acoustics" and "Father of Meteorites." He was the first to proclaim that meteorites were "rocks that fell from space." The first known modern case of a human hit by a "space rock" occurred on 11/30/1954 in Sylacauga, Alabama, when a 4 kg stone, chondrite, crashed through a roof, bounced off a radio and hit Ann Hodges, who was in her living room. The Hodges meteorite, or Sylacauga meteorite, is currently on exhibit at the Alabama Museum of Natural History.*
