Clan Initiate

Am I now

Given the Mission

For which I’ve prayed

Full of Poetry and Motion

Pregnant with a Zeitgeist---

Mediatrix of a Vision.

Relentless Rage

Intolerable Images

Rise to dim the Eyes

 Of would-be Heroes---

 

I am a Poet

In a loveless Age---

Out of Time and Place---

Where manufactured Media flows

 From Factories of Mediocrity

 

We Assemble

Like Beasts at the Trough

Sensing imminent Slaughter---

Who can hear

A Poet’s Voice amid the Din?

 

Who will listen---

Who comprehend

The Depth of our Descent

So close and soon upon us?

 

The green, fecund Earth

Unspeakably dear

Howls in Desperation---

Wounded beyond Recognition

 

We are falling

Off the Horizon again---

Sailing over the Edge

On Ships of Ignorance and Fear.

In each of us a Beauty and a Beast

In all a Light and Darkness of the Heart

In each a Famine and a Holy Feast

In all the Whole of which we are a Part

 

In every Mind lives Human and Divine

In each One two Voices in the Soul

In every Fruit, hard Seed, and honeyed Wine

Within each Particle resides the Whole

 

In all that’s Uniform---Diversity

In all Duality does Union hide

In all that’s complex lives Simplicity

In all who fear are Faith and Love denied

 

               Though Maya’s subtle Veil hides all that’s True

             With conscious Sight, the single Eye peers through.

Its pounding, thrumming Drum

To seed the Colors of Life

To dance and sing its sacred Song

 

Life---Death---Life is She

Eternal Turn and Re---turn

She is the Drama of Destiny

My precious Friend, regard me not askance

Though I deserve your Gaze, most skeptical

I cannot fault you for your wary Glance

For of myself, I make pure Spectacle

It is to Tears my Words one could compare

Both flow in uncontrollable Remorse

In Composition, they so poorly fare

To express Passion from its deepest Source

These Words survive, though Tears do disappear

Poetry at least puts Form on Feeling

But I do risk your Mockery and Fear

Trying to convince you of my Meaning

 

Emotion, when translated to Refrain

Loses too Much but gambles more to gain.

Carried on a Flute and Drum---

Her Fire transforms Water

Into Earth and Air

 

Music builds the Waves

Upon a Sea of Sound---

 Dancer in the Mist---

Cymbals sing---Sequins flash

On quivering Feathers and Flesh

 

Joy floats upon her Smile

She lifts the Rhythm

From Hips to Hands

So full of Grace the Heart aches

In its serpentine Race to Soul.
