Poetry is made in bed, like love
The unmade sheets are the dawn of things*
Wed in the body of women
Are Space and Time –
Time by numinous blood is marked or held –
Making space for Life to grow
In Form – Form born of sacred Grace –
The grand Void and Vacuum
Churning and Yearning for a new thing –
A cosmic Magnet irresistible
Spins Movement and Measure together –
Sacred Music pours from the galactic Center
Weaving a Dance so entrancing that

Demita Frazier
Demita Frazier is a black feminist, writer, teacher, and activist. She is a founding member of the Combahee River Collective. Currently, Frazier works as a professional mentor/coach.

Combahee River Collective
The Combahee River Collective laid a foundation which broadened the Black feminist perspective to argue that sexism, racism, and racial oppression intersect one another. Demita Frazier was part of the Combahee River Collective, founding the organization in 1974. The group's name came from the heroic actions of Harriet Tubman, who led a campaign that freed more than 750 slaves at South Carolina's Combahee River in 1863. The CRC's overall mission was to inform the mass media and bring attention to the conditions of African-American women. The Collective was involved in an initiative to stop African, African American, and Puertorican women from being involuntarily sterilized. The Combahee River Collective disbanded in 1980 and Frazier wrote the group's final statement,with Barbara Smith and Beverly Smith.*
