Today begins Sukkot, 7-day Jewish festival. Sukkot means "booth" or "temporary dwelling." During this festival, many Jews reside in temporary dwellings that they must construct from natural materials in remembrance of their ancestors. This festival commemorates the 40-year period during which God ordered Jews to live in the desert before they could enter the Promised Land.
